Chuck Stires joins Independence Day call for leadership in energy security.
Endorses need to pursue domestic energy resources
Youngsville, July 3, 2008:
"We cannot sit back and wait for new technologies in alternative fuels while our energy, economic and national security is at risk," said Chuck Stires, candidate for the NC Senate representing Franklin, Vance, Warren and Granville Counties. "New technologies are available today to allow us to safely harvest our rich domestic energy resources while at the same time developing alternative fuels for the future. Our communities, businesses and industries are demanding action."
The NC Republican Senate Caucus has called on the North Carolina congressional delegation, President Bush and presumptive presidential candidates, John McCain and Barack Obama to ignore the inaction of the federal and state Democrat leadership and address this growing problem head-on.
Charlotte Mayor Pat McCrory, Republican candidate for governor, has also endorsed seeking domestic energy supplies, including deep-water drilling off the North Carolina coast.
"It is ridiculous to think that North Carolina families must be at the mercy of foreign energy supplies when we can renew our own energy independence," Stires continued. "The Democrat majorities in Raleigh and Washington are so beholden to special interests they are stonewalling environmentally sound processes of acquiring our own energy resources. As a result we are paying over $4.00 a gallon for gas needed to get to our jobs and our budgets are exploding."
"I support the efforts of our NC Republican Senate Caucus. The Democrats and their leadership have refused to act responsibly and North Carolina's families are paying the price," Chuck Stires concluded. "If the citizens of this district give me the honor of serving them in Raleigh, the NC Republican Senate Caucus will have yet another strong voice acting on behalf of hard-working North Carolinians."
